Todd Meeker has been a big part of the Willow Glen varsity basketball team since his freshman year in 2009, but all good things must come to an end. Meeker was the only senior on the team for the Rams this year and he helped them to a 13-13 season that ended last week with a 65-60 loss to Aragon in the second round of the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs.

But those athletes playing basketball in the Blossom Valley Athletic League have two chances to earn a title these days: one in the regular season, and another in the BVAL basketball tournament at the end of the season.

As the high school basketball season comes closer to an end, every win is important. The boys at Willow Glen High knew it, so they turned up the heat last week to win three straight games, breaking over the .500 mark and moving their record of 7-5 in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

The teams in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League reached the halfway point in the 2012 season last week, and the Lincoln boys have beaten all but one of the other clubs in the division. The Lions finished the first half with a 6-1 record and sharing first place with Andrew Hill. They beat everyone on their schedule, except third-place Yerba Buena. Lincoln will get the chance to right that wrong next week the Lions visit the Aztec Warriors for a key game on Jan. 31, 7:30 p.m.
